Wivey Link – Redesigned charity site with online booking and payments

,,,,,

Working with London based GreenNet, this is one of my favourite projects I’ve ever worked on.

The brief was to design and build an accessible, user-friendly website for Wivey Link Community Transport. With their physical office recently having to close, it was more important than ever that members could book journeys and pay invoices online, as well as sign up or renew their membership.

I designed and built a brand new WordPress site, based on the supplied logo and branding guidelines. The branding was limited to a couple of colours and fonts, however I was able to take inspiration from Wivey Link’s recent annual report and it’s theme of bold circles.

We aimed to improve usability and accessibility by redesigning the site structure and navigation, and addressing gaps in content. For example the areas served by Wivey Link were represented by a pretty illustrated map, but this is not accessible. The information needs to be available in text form which has now been added.

In order to take bookings and payments through the site – to request journeys, pay invoices or to sign up as a member – we recommended a solution using Gravityforms integrated with PayPal. The client was already using PayPal buttons for donations so it was smoother to keep the same payment gateway. Hopefully they may see increased revenue through optional donations – which can now be made while paying for other services. Customers have the option to pay immediately via PayPal or pay later via BACS.

We migrated news articles from Wivey Link’s old website, but otherwise the content (horribly formatted by Elementor) was rewritten! This is now a nice clean, custom Gutenberg block theme with very few plugins, making it light and easy to maintain going forward.

As my first project for GreenNet, they took a risk on me commissioning both the design and build, but it couldn’t have gone better. Wivey Link themselves are delighted with the website and the collaboration,
